Explanation

Particle with two main functions: change of state (下雨了) and completed action (吃了饭). It does not always equal past tense.

Example sentences
我 wǒ 吃 chī 饭 fàn 了 le
I have eaten.
他 tā 去 qù 中国 Zhōngguó 了 le
He has gone to China.
我们 wǒ men 看 kàn 电影 diàn yǐng 了 le
We watched a movie.
